Learning Journey

Year 3's geography question is 'How have two Archimedes Screws changed the use of the River Dart in Totnes'.

Reading

Year 3 children read daily in school and this can take many forms. As a class, we enjoy sharing and discussing our ‘class read’; the children need to access a range of texts throughout the day from across the curriculum; we have designated reading sessions which allow us to work on techniques such as inference and the exploration of vocabulary; and it is really important that the children continue to read for pleasure.

All children are expected to read at home daily for at least 15 minutes. For further comprehension practice, after completing a book, children are to quiz on Accelerated Reader at school or at home- the expectation is for children to complete at least one quiz a week.

Spelling Practice

Spelling rules from our weekly spelling lessons can be practised on Spelling Shed ahead of our weekly spelling test each Friday (new spellings are set every Friday). The children are encouraged to practise their spellings at home for five minutes each night.

Maths

As a class, we recognise the importance of being ‘fluent’ with number facts such as times tables and number bonds; this is something that we prioritise, daily.

Each Friday, the children are set a homework task on MyMaths to complete by the following Friday.

PE Days

Our PE days are on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children are to arrive at school dressed in their PE kit on these days.

Outdoor Learning

Beech Class have already enjoyed their first Forest School session and are excited to have the opportunity to build upon these skills later in the term. Like in all classes across the school, we enjoy learning outside so please make sure that your child brings a coat to school each day- we will let you know if they need wellies for particular days.

Home learning

Additional homework will be set via Class Dojo.
