Tom Shaw

This will be my sixth year as a qualified teacher but my first year working at Totnes St John’s having joined from a large primary school in Paignton. I have heard first-hand, how amazing the community spirit, parents and children are at Totnes St John’s and am therefore eager to get to know all of the families and children this year.

Teaching is a true passion of mine and I get so much enjoyment out of watching children thrive and immerse themselves in learning and am always encouraging children to be the best versions of themselves. At the heart of my classroom is a passion for fostering a life-long love of learning. I want to enable children to enjoy and make the most of their time during primary school and help prepare them for the rapidly evolving world that awaits them once they leave.

Outside of teaching, I have two young children so enjoy spending time with my family. My main free time is spent on days out at the beach, visiting the local zoo, or going for cycle rides together as a family. I have also always been interested and involved in sport based activities, participating frequently in my spare time. My interest within sports has led me to complete many qualifications and use them to work within sporting fields within the local community.

I like to think of myself as a happy and positive person with a good sense of humour and I am really excited about embarking upon the next chapter of my teaching career at Totnes St John’s.
