MFL – Our intent, aims and concepts
Aim
As a trust, we want to support all of our pupils to understand their place in the world. To do this, it is important that they are exposed to different communities and cultures so they can understand and appreciate different perspectives and customs therefore developing their inner cultural capital. Learning a modern foreign language is a key part of this: the process of doing so has been described as ‘a liberation from insularity’ (National Curriculum 2014), enabling children to understanding and communicate with people from different parts of the globe.
We aim for all our children to:
• Understand the importance and benefits of learning another language
• Develop a working knowledge of a foreign language whilst in primary school
• Develop their confidence to speak a foreign language through to engage with (native speakers)
