I started at St John’s over 10 years ago as a newly qualified teacher. I love the school, its children and the community. It is a very special place to work. I have worked mainly in KS1 but also spent a year in Year 5 and Year 3. Currently I am the Year 2 teacher and the team leader for Year 2, 3 and 4. I also lead Maths across the school.
I read Language and Communication at university and graduated from Cardiff University in 2000. I then completed my PGCE at Marjons, in Plymouth, in 2010 and was awarded a distinction in a Masters in Education in 2013 for research I had completed looking into the impact regular aerobic exercise has on children’s writing attainment. Just like the children in school, I am always keen to learn new things.
Before working at St John’s I was a manager of a company in Torquay that built swimming pools, which is very different to teaching lovely children! Nonetheless, I feel that this experience did give me confidence and worldly knowledge to succeed in teaching.
