I have joined Totnes St Johns' as the maternity cover teacher for Mrs Laura Dyer.

My husband, our two teenage boys, our two Beagles and I relocated to this beautiful part of the world from South Africa last year.  I lived and taught near London for 5 years previously.  I returned to South Africa for 16 years and we have now chosen Devon for our permanent relocation as a family.  I'm not sure who is embracing the countryside and beach walks more - the dogs or us!

I am enjoying the change that comes with teaching girls once again, having spent 16 years teaching boys, and coaching cricket, football, hockey and squash.  I always incorporate a strong culture of Growth Mindset into my classroom, along with teaching the understanding of how neural pathways develop in the brain.  Our children can literally learn to rewire their brains as they grow!  Encourage your child to embrace all that is available to them at this beautiful school, supported by passionate and dedicated teachers.  Stephanie Harvey describes it perfectly when she says, "Smart is not something you are, smart is something you get.  And you get smart by reading, writing, drawing, talking, listening and investigating".
